• Check all FACP (fire alarm control panel) components and circuit boards
• Check batteries and perform a load test for proper operation
• Make sure batteries were marked with the appropriate date
• Make sure the FACP was marked with the AC power breaker and location
• Check the sticker on the panel for the proper central station account # (if not present did I add one)
• Check all j-boxes for covers
• Make sure all fire alarm cables are tightly landed to the fire alarm panel and laced down in a clean and professional manner
• Run through the system program via laptop computer or FACP interface
• Check date and time on FACP
• Check all phone lines to the dialer/communicator
• Send an alarm, trouble and supervisory signal to the local fire department
• Set off the horns and strobes through out the building and check every device for operation
• Check all elevator capture and shunt-trip devices
• Verify all air conditioning and fire dampers shut down/close on any general alarm signal
• Activate all photoelectric smoke detectors and clean as needed• Pull all fire alarm pull stations
• Check fire alarm annunciator for proper display and operation
• Check all terminal cans and splices
• Provided owner/management with proper NFPA testing certification paperwork stating that the system has been tested by a certified technician.
IF THESE STEPS WERE NOT COMPLETED THEN THE FIRE ALARM TEST WAS NOT COMPLETED. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE TESTING A SYSTEM THAT IS IN PLACE TO SAVE LIVES.
