Bending Electrical Conduit - Stub or 90 Degree Bend

When bending electrical conduit the stub is the most common conduit bend used in fire alarm installation construction. When bending a low voltage conduit stub you will have to subtract the “take-up” from your measurement. When using ½” EMT the “take-up” is 5” and when using ¾” EMT the “take-up is 6”. For example: Consider making a 20” stub with ¾” EMT.

Step #1: Subtract 6” from the finished stub height. In this case 20” – 6” = 14”.
Step #2: Mark the conduit 14” from the end.
Step #3: Line the Arrow on the bender with the mark at 14” and bend the conduit 90 degrees.
