Bending Electrical Conduit - Back to Back Bends

When bending electrical conduit a back-to-back conduit bend produces a “U” shape in a single piece of conduit. This is a good technique to use for a low voltage conduit run across the floor or ceiling which turns up or down a wall.

Example:

Step #1: After you have completed your first 90 degree low voltage conduit bend. (see How To Bend A Stub) Measure from the back of the 90 degree bend you just made to the point where the back of the second bend is to be made.
Step #2: Measure and mark your conduit the same distance.
Step #3: Align the mark on the conduit with the Star-Point on the electrical conduit bender and bend to 90 degrees. Take time to make sure that your conduit marks and measurements line up. This is where dog-legs start to happen. A ‘no-dog” level really helps prevent kinks.

By using this technique you can make multiple types of back-to-back bends. For example by bending your second 90 in the opposite direction you will create an “S” instead of a “U”. Play around with this type of low voltage conduit bending as it is very useful in the field.
