Connecting to a Bosch AEC Card Access Control Panel

The Bosch AEC card access control panel is great system with the ability to be programmed from any PC connected to the internet. This is a very valuable feature since there is no need to purchase expensive programming software. All you need to do is connect the Bosch AEC card access control panel to the customer's network. Once the system is connected go to Internet Explorer and enter the IP Address of the controller into the browser's address bar and you are in.

Now in this post I want to focus mainly on connecting directly to the Bosch AEC card access control panel with your laptop and crossover cable. This is the method preferred for field maintenance, troubleshooting or upgrades.

First step to this process is connecting the crossover cable to your laptops LAN port and to the LAN 1 port on the Bosch AEC control panel. Next click "Start" on your desktop then "Run". Enter "CMD" and press enter. You should see a screen like this:

Now with the screen open enter the following text:  ping xxx.xxx.x.xxx (obviously replace the xxx.xxx.x.xxx with the actual IP Address of the Bosch AEC card access control panel) and hit enter.  This will ping the control panel and verify you have a solid connection with your crossover cable.

With a solid connection you can now open your network connections and select "Local Area Connection", now select "properties" under your Local Area Connection Status window.

On the Local Area Connection Properties window select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then hit "properties".

On the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window select "use the following IP address".  Now in the space provided enter an IP Address that is exactaly the same as the IP Address assigned to the Bosch AEC card access control panel.  The only difference is that you will need to change the last digit to a number that is 1 higher or 1 lower than the Bosch IP address.  For example:

If the Bosch IP Address is 192.168.1.250
The Internet Protocol IP Address should be either 192.168.1.251 or 192.168.1.249.

Now hit okay until you are out of these menus and open Internet Explorer.  In the address bar type the actual IP address of the Bosch AEC panel and hit enter.  You should now be at the programming screen.

In future posts I will discuss these steps in greater detail along with actual programming options and features.
