1. Photoelectric duct smoke detector technology is appropriate for HVAC applications.
Photoelectric smoke detection responds better to the larger smoke particles found in ductwork during a fire. Ionization smoke detection responds better to smaller smoke particles normally found closer to the fire in open areas like rooms and hallways.
2. Now recommended by the National Fire Alarm Code NFPA 72.
Page 72-145 in NFPA Standard 72, section A.5-16.4.2, reads "In almost every fire scenario in an air handling system, the point of detection will be some distance from the fire source, therefore, the smoke will be cooler and more visible because of the growth of sub-micron particles into larger particles due to agglomeration and recombination. For these reasons, photoelectric detection technology has advantages over ionization detection technology in air duct system applications."
3. Photoelectric smoke detection operates better in the environment of ventilation systems.
High humidity and condensation can cause false alarms with ionization smoke detectors. Photoelectric smoke detectors operate more efficiently with far less chance of false alarms.
4. Photoelectric smoke detection is the exclusive technology of fire alarm system manufacturers.
The fire alarm industry prefers photoelectric smoke detection. It is exclusively specified by major retailers like Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot and CVS. Photoelectric smoke detection is the technology used by every manufacturer of commercial packaged air conditioning units. Most HVAC contractors are starting to use the new System Sensor D4120 conventional photoelectric duct smoke detector. This is System Sensor's new version of the DH100ACDC-LP
5. Only photoelectric duct smoke detectors offer Low-Flow.
Capable of operating in air speeds as low as 100 feet per minute to meet new HVAC applications and codes.
