Fire Alarm Elevator Recall is Required

We all know that passenger elevators, service elevators and freight elevators need to be connected to the building fire alarm system.  We call this elevator recall and elevator sunt-trip.  But what if the site elevator is non operable?  Good question.  If the elevator is capable of traveling 25 feet it will be required to have elevator recall functions tied to the fire alarm system regardless of it being operable or not.

Existing elevators with a travel distance of 25 feet or more above or below the main floor or other level of a building shall be provided with an emergency operation in accordance with ASME A17.3 A17.3 - 2005 Safety Code for Existing Elevators and Escalators and the 2007 California Fire Code section 607.1 2007 California Fire Code - Title 24 Part 9
