You can choose to use a combination smoke alarm with HC visual appliance as another method. There are many ways to perform this requirement. The horn circuit will trip the smoke alarm circuit thus activating the smoke/strobe alarms which are already located in the rooms and living space. The last 2 sentences of the code below allow this.<br /><br />Section 907.5.2.3.4 states "In group R-2 occupancies required by section 907 to have a fire alarm systems, all dwelling units and sleeping units shall be provided with the capability to support visible alarm notification appliances in accordance with Chapter 10 of ICC A117.1.
